Friends of the Oakland Public Library was formed in 1975 as an association of persons interested in making the Library the center of information learning and culture in the community. The Friends' focus public attention on the Library, to encourage gifts, endowments and bequests to the Library and to aid and support the Library’s development.

  The Friends of the Public Library have financed or provided major assistance in the financing of;

  • The "Talking Books" Cassette Program
  • Large Print Books
  • Video Tape Collection
  • Video Projector and Screen
  • Children's Department Computers
  • Children's Department Arts and Crafts classes and trips

  The Friends' provide a cultural service to the community by sponsoring the Annual Adult and Young People’s Art Show and the Young People’s Poetry Contest. They also coordinate monthly exhibits of local talent by displaying the "Artist of the Month" in the Gallery and resident's special collections in the foyer.

  Funding for The Friends' comes from an annual membership drive in the fall and through various projects throughout the year such as used book sales. All residents are urged to become new members. More information is available by calling the Library at 201-337-3742.
