Welcome to the Oakland Junior Police Academy’s Informational Page.
This year the junior police academy will be the week of July 23 – July 27, 2018, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The class is free of charge to the participants due to a very generous donation from the Oakland/Franklin Lakes Rotary Club.
The children learn by doing; each day includes military drills, physical training and defensive tactics as well as instruction on drug and alcohol avoidance modeled after the Too Good For Drugs curriculum. We will have several law enforcement presentations by the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department , Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and FBI. The Oakland First Aid Squad and the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department will also present activities to the recruits.
In the past, we have had tremendous success with this program; the recruits were engaged and interested.
If you think your child would be interested in a dynamic, hands on fun week of learning about law enforcement; send us an e-mail. The academy is open to Oakland residents who are entering 7th, 8th and 9th grade. Thank you for your time and interest in this program. The application for this program will be distributed by the Oakland Public Schools.
