Crazy Fun Crafts GRADES 1-5

Crazy Fun Crafts is a fun experimental class where we will be exploring and experimenting with awesome art materials and fun foods!  Projects include: Slime Making, Edible Candy Sushi, Crayon Melting, Splatter Art, Monster Clay Pots & Shaving Cream Art. Taught by Vanessa Telischak who currently teaches art at Heights Elementary School and VMS.

Super Science for Kids - Grades 2-5

Super Science for Kids offers engaging, multi-sensory, hands-on science for children in grades 2 – 5. This program encourages children to investigate concepts in chemistry, physics, engineering, and life science through fun activities and experimentation. Come join us for all new experiments and activities this Spring!

This course is presented by Leonard Parra who has been teaching and inspiring children at Valley Middle school for over 12 years.

Discovery Science Lab - Grades 6-8

Discovery Science Lab offers a wide variety of exciting lab experiments that explore various fields in science and technology. Geared towards children in middle school, this course will teach various concepts in physics, ecology, chemistry, biology, and geology through fun, hands-on activities and lab experiments. Children will gain experience in using laboratory equipment, develop problem solving and critical thinking skills. This course provides a stimulating environment both indoors and out.

STEAM Makerspace Club - Grades 1-5

Let’s dive right in to a variety of engaging, creative, DIY style projects and challenges in the STEAM Makerspace.  The participants will get a chance to use a variety of materials and tools, including Lego Robots and a 3D printer, as they get hands on to design and build all new projects!  Each session will feature its own unique STEAM / Makerspace experience for them to enjoy.

Teacher Bio:
Mr. Gilligan is in his 9th year teaching in Oakland, in which his first four years were spent teaching in the 5th grade at Heights School, which preceded his current role as a STEAM, Robotics, and Computer Science at Valley Middle School.

Track - Grades 6-8

Rec Field, Thursday 3:00pm-4:00pm, 4/19, 4/26, 5/3, 5/10, 5/17, 5/24, 5/31, 6/7

Track class will offer a multitude of engaging activities to students to gain and maintain physical fitness for running and for life! There will be a wide variety of stretching, calisthenics, strength conditioning and various types of running throughout the hour long class. Students will have fun getting fit and developing endurance as they push themselves and each other to work to the best of their ability. The goal for each student will be for them to run a 5K at the last class. This class will meet at the Oakland Recreational Fields on Thursday’s. Each student will get a t-shirt to run in for class and a medal upon completion of the 5K. Students should have appropriate exercise attire, including a sweatshirt and sweatpants, shorts, running sneakers and a bottle of water for each class.

This class is taught by Tim Hausch who teaches social studies at Valley Middle School and has coached the VMS track team for seven out of his nine years at Valley.
