3-D ART CLUB GRADES 1-5

Let's make 3D art using a variety of art materials, including plaster, paint, clay, paper, cardboard, foil, and more! Students will explore various sculpture techniques and learn how to create 3-D art work. They will continue to develop their creative skills and artistic expression through the creation of art.Taught by Vanessa Telischak who currently teaches art at Heights Elementary School and VMS.

$130 (includes clay and glazing) New Projects - Same fun!This class is designed for students of all levels and abilities to help learn and develop their skills while working with clay. Students will use the three basic methods of working with clay: pinch pot building, slab construction and coiling to create both functional and sculptural pieces. The class will decorate their finished projects using a variety of colorful glaze and underglazes. Taught by Vanessa Telischak, Heights and VMS Art Teacher

Super Science for Kids - Grades 3-5

Super Science for Kids offers engaging, multi-sensory, hands-on science for children in grades 3 – 5. This program encourages children to investigate concepts in chemistry, physics, engineering, and life science through fun activities and experimentation. Projects include: crystal growing, building (and launching) water-bottle rockets, kitchen chemistry, marshmallow towers, and more!

This course is presented by Leonard Parra who has been teaching science at Valley Middle school for 12 years.

FULL - DO NOT REGISTER Discovery Science Lab - Grades 6 - 8

Description: Discovery Science Lab offers a wide variety of exciting lab experiments that explore various fields in science and technology. Geared towards children in middle school, this course will teach various concepts in physics, ecology, chemistry, biology, and geology through fun, hands-on activities and lab experiments. Children will gain experience in using laboratory equipment, develop problem solving and critical thinking skills. The course will provide a stimulating environment both indoors and out, which includes building (and launching) rockets, working with microscopes, dissecting frogs, chemistry labs, building electronic games, ecology labs, crystal growing, and many more fun filled activities.

This course is presented by Leonard Parra who has been teaching science at Valley Middle school for 12 years.

Fun With Coding and 3-D Design - Grades 3-6

This class is designed for students of all levels and abilities to help learn and develop coding and 3-D Design skills.  Students will use MIT's block coding program SCRATCH to build a computer game, and they'll build 3-D designs using Tynkercad, an introductory CAD website.  The class will be taught key foundational skills in using these programs, and will be given guidance and freedom as they explore the limitless possibilities that these powerful computer science applications have to offer.

Teacher Bio:
Mr. Gilligan is in his 9th year teaching in Oakland, in which his first four years were spent teaching in the 5th grade at Heights School, which preceded his current role as a STEAM, Robotics, and Computer Science at Valley Middle School.
