MISSION STATEMENT

 

To support an integrated systems-based public health capacity, to support the promotion of health and the prevention of disease and to build the necessary public health infrastructure and capacity needed to protect the health of the residents of Oakland.

METHODOLOGY

 

To support and provide the “Ten Essential” Public Health Services as provided in the New Jersey Practice Standards of Performance for Local Boards of Health. Specifically to:

  1. Monitor health status to identify community health problems.
  2. Investigate health problems and hazards in the community.
  3. Inform, educate and empower people regarding health issues.
  4. Mobilize community partnerships to identify and solve health problems.
  5. Develop policies and plans which support individual and community health efforts.
  6. Enforce the laws that protect health and ensure safety.
  7. Link people to needed public health services.
  8. Provide a competent local public health service workforce.
  9. Evaluate the effectiveness, accessibility and quality of public health services.
  10. Investigate and research new insights and innovative solutions to health problems.
