Dog and Cat Licensing

Dog and Cat licensing is conducted each year during the month of January.  A late fee is charged for any license not renewed by February 15th of each year.

When renewing or obtaining a new license, the following is required:

  • Proof of current rabies vaccination.  As per N.J.A.C. 8:23A-4.1, any rabies certificate that expires before November 1st of the current licensing period must be renewed before a license can be issued.
  • Fee for license.  Checks should be made payable to Borough of Oakland. Fee schedule is as follows:
Spayed/Neutered - $13.00Spayed/Neutered - $12.00
Non-Spayed/Non-Neutered - $16.00Non-Spayed/Non-Neutered - $15.00

Please note:  $ 5.00 late fee will be charged to any license not renewed by February 15th.  Licensing of new dogs can be done at any time during the year and will not be charged a late fee.

Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, licensing must be done through the mail.  The license and tag will be mailed to the pet owner.   License applications and fees can be mailed to:
