On May 31, 2022, Oakland Borough said goodbye and good luck to one of its most beloved employees—retiring Borough Clerk Lisa Duncan.

Duncan has been the Oakland borough clerk for the past 21 years.

The longtime Oakland resident was hired in 1988 as a temporary employee with the borough, and then moved to the purchasing department. Duncan succeeded her late mom,  Lenora Tully, and was appointed borough clerk in 2001.

Although Duncan’s official last day was May 31st, the Borough formally said goodbye at the most recent council meeting, where she was honored by the Mayor Linda H. Schwager and the Borough Council for her many dedicated years of service. Duncan was presented with a plaque and certificate from the Governing Body.

"The Borough of Oakland will truly miss Lisa." said Mayor Linda H. Schwager as she presented an official plaque. "On behalf of the Borough, we wish you continued good health and happiness in your future endeavors."

"Oakland has been very fortunate to have Lisa as the borough clerk because of her dedication, diligence and competence", said Borough Administrator Richard Kunze. "If Lisa was responsible for something I always knew it would be done well and on-time. As a co-worker, I could not have asked for someone better.   Lisa was easy to work with - always willing to help out and her sense of humor helped lighten the mood during stressful times."

Duncan plans on spending her retirement traveling and with family and friends.

Duncan will be succeeded in the position by Michael Carelli, who was appointed the new borough clerk by the Borough Council on May 25th.  Carelli has served as Assistant to the Administrator for the past three years while learning about the important duties of borough clerk.
