Mayor's Message - December 2021

December is a month filled with excitement and joy.  Our town adds to the excitement with all the activities planned by our fantastic, hard working, energetic volunteers who serve on the public events committee.

During Thanksgiving weekend Oakland volunteers will participate in the holiday season kickoff activity.  Bergen County is once again hosting Winter Wonderland in Van Saun Park in Paramus where our town is given a tree to decorate. When visiting the park, look for our Oakland Tree.

On Sunday, December 5th at 5:00 pm, in Veteran's Park, join us for our annual Christmas Tree and Menorah Lighting. Share in the celebration and then enjoy light refreshments immediately following inside Valley Middle School.

I am happy to report that this will be Oakland's 4th Annual Holiday Lighting Showcase.  We can have our very own Winter Wonderland in Oakland.  Judging will take place during the evenings of December 21-22, 2021.  Participants will be judged by neighborhood sections:  Dogwood, Heights and Manito sections.

One grand prize will be awarded and for each section there will be one runner-up and a second runner-up.  Gift cards will be given to the prize winners.
