Mayor's Message -- November 2019

Mayor Linda H. Schwager

I am very excited to announce progress for the projects that I have been leading for the past few years.

At the next council meeting we will be discussing the proposal by Burgess Associates for Downtown planning and rehabilitation in anticipation of sewers.  As you are aware, I have been diligently working and negotiating with the State to bring sewers into Oakland that will lead to our downtown revitalization.  The Oakland Planning Board sub-committee has been meeting to prepare for this exciting new venture.  Downtown revitalization is coming!

After many years of  pursuing permission from the NJ State Historic Agency, we shall be dismantling the Stream House.  Bids are being prepared.  In the meantime, work is progressing on the historic Van Allen House.

Another exciting announcement concerns our sidewalks.  We received a grant for sidewalks.   Soon you will be able to walk on a sidewalk replacement/upgrade along Ramapo Valley Road from Navajo to Thunderbird AND...the sidewalks near Great Oak Park are progressing as well.

There are many many more projects in the works such as the electric vehicle charging station, community garden, and bandshell in the Great Oak Park, just to name a few.

We have a wonderful town.  We have many volunteers who work tirelessly and make Oakland the special place it is. Thank you to all the Volunteers and contributors who  are collecting candy for families in the college section  who are visited by high volumes of trick or treaters.
