Mayor's Message -- October 2019

Mayor Linda H. Schwager

At a recent council meeting I appointed an Ad Hoc Capital Improvements Committee to identify and monitor projects throughout our town in a timely and cost-effective manner.

For many many years the borough has not been able to keep up with aging infrastructure due to financial constraints.

We are now at a point where we must face major repairs:

ALLERMAN BROOK: The compromised embankments in the brook which runs under route 287 from Franklin Lakes and under Route 202 along Sioux must be stabilized.  Within less than two weeks, we were able to start NJDEP defined emergency repairs.  Phase 2 is almost completed and Phase 3 shall begin shortly.

CLOSED SIDEWALK ALONG 202 ADJACENT TO GREAT OAK PARK: Solutions to repair the sidewalk are not simple nor cheap.  But we now have a long-range plan to temporarily fix the sidewalk and ultimately re-align the sidewalk on the other side of the road.

WATER MAIN PIPES: There are 70 miles of water pipes running throughout our town. Our DPW supervisor is preparing a replacement and upgrade plan based upon age, condition and financial factors.

RAMAPO VALLEY ROAD NORTH SIDEWALKS: We have a grant for sidewalks on the north end of town.

PATRIOTS WAY BRIDGE AND LENAPE ANE BRIDGE: Serious discussions and investigations are ongoing.

STREAM HOUSE: We have state approval to dismantle the Stream House.  Bids are going out.  My hope is to replace the Stream House with a Community Building.

Until next time,

Mayor Linda Schwager
