Coronavirus Update 4-24-2020

Coronavirus Positive Tests in Oakland:

Today the Borough of Oakland was notified by the Bergen County Health Department that there are a total of 187 individuals in Oakland who tested positive for the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Bergen County has a total of 14,062 positive Coronavirus Cases, and the State of NJ has 102,196 positive cases.

Birthday Drive-Byes Suspended Until Further Notice:

Due to the tragic passing of Oakland’s own, Gary Walker, the Oakland First Aid Squad is suspending drive by birthday celebrations until further notice. Thank you for your understanding and our thoughts and prayers are with Gary’s wife and daughter, and entire family.

Oakland Announces 6 Week Virtual Yoga and Meditation Program:

The Borough of Oakland is hosting a FREE 6 Week Yoga and Meditation Program from April 28, 2020 to June 6, 2020. Classes include Yoga Spring Cleanse, Mindful Meditation, Informational Seminars, and Stress and Anxiety Classes. MVC Agency Closures Extended:

All MVC agency, road testing, and inspection facilities will remain closed until at least Monday, May 11. Most renewals of driver licenses, non-driver IDs, and registrations – including, for the first time, some commercial registrations – can be processed online at NJMVC.gov.

Congress Approves Relief Package for Small Businesses:

Congress has approved a nearly $500 billion relief package, including $321 billion to refund the Paycheck Protection Program, $75 billion in emergency relief for hospitals, $60 billion in economic disaster loans for small businesses, and $25 billion to expand coronavirus testing. President Trump signed the bill on 4/24/2020. 

Protecting Against Disinformation & Online Scams:

The New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness (NJOHSP) is leading New Jersey’s efforts to combat COVID-19 disinformation, rumors, and scams that may impact residents and businesses throughout the State. NJOHSP is collaborating with other State agencies to provide the public with guidance regarding false and fraudulent information and activity stemming from the pandemic. A webpage, “COVID-19 Rumor Control and Disinformation Updates,” is updated as new information becomes available.

NJEDA Entrepreneur Support Program:

NJ Entrepreneur Support Program – The New Jersey Entrepreneur Support Program is a $5 million program that will create a guarantee to support repayment of an investor loan advanced for working capital purposes and is designed to encourage investors to support businesses within their portfolios. Additional eligibility requirements for both investors and entrepreneurs can be found at http://cv.business.nj.gov.

The dashboard has been updated to provide more information on scope of the virus and hospitalizations, including the number of patients hospitalized, discharged, in critical care, in intensive care, and on ventilators, along with data on statewide ventilator capacity, numbers of positive/negative tests, and more.
  • New Jersey’s COVID-19 Information Hub includes valuable resources and information for families, workers, and employers who have questions or needs arising from the current crisis.
