Proposed Improvements:

The Oakland School Safety project involves the installation of new sidewalk, curbing, crosswalk improvements, pedestrian signing, curb ramp upgrades as per Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) at the following locations:

  • Oak Street starting mid-block between Ramapo Valley Road and Municipal Plaza running west, turning south onto Municipal Plaza, then turning west along the Borough Hall parking lot, crossing Thomas McGinnis Memorial Way, and continuing to Valley Middle School parking lot and front entrance.
  • Oak Street starting at Lawlor Drive running east, turning south onto Thomas McGinnis Memorial Way, and continuing to Valley Middle School parking lot.

Funding:

This project is funded by the NJDOT Safe Routes to Schools Grant Program. 

Proposed Schedule:

  • Spring 2022 – Preliminary Design
  • April 21, 2022 – Public Information Center to be held
  • Summer 2023 - Construction begins (during recess)
  • Fall 2023 - Estimated completion of construction (before school)

Public Information Center:

The Borough of Oakland is hosting a Virtual Public Information Center on Thursday April 21, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom Video Conferencing to provide an overview and timeline of the project. To register for the Zoom credentials, click here.
