One of the most requeThe Mayor & Rec Chair Guadagnino play the first game on the pickleball courtssted activities the Recreation Commission has received over the past few years has been for a place to play pickleball. This is one of the fastest growing sports in the America and one that has garnered a lot of positive attention. On a trial basis the commission brought in a group last year to test the pickleball waters. This included weekly programs as well as a fall tournament. The participation was tremendous, showing that there is a true desire for a place to play pickleball in Oakland.

After discussions with Oakland tennis players, we all agreed to repurpose court #6 which has been out of commission because of damaged the past few years. After discussion with the borough insurance company, we were notified what needed to be remediated to allow safe pickleball play on that court. Buildings and Grounds Supervisor Jimmy McWilliams made the corrections, Jason and Jared Duncan donated their time to stripe not one, but two pickleball courts and the commission purchased nets and screens to make pickleball in Oakland a reality!Jared and Jason Duncan

There are two courts and anyone with a tennis court badge is permitted to play. We ask that everyone follow court etiquette which includes a 1-hour time limit if others are waiting to play. The courts are schedule to be completely resurfaced in the coming months which will include keeping two pickleball courts.  For more information on the tennis court schedule please visit www.OaklandTennisCourts.com.
