Mayor's Message - January 2023

Mayor Linda H. Schwager
Mayor Linda H. Schwager

This is the season to sit back and reflect—giving thanks.  Many thanks for the many Oakland residents who volunteer their time and work hard for fellow residents of Oakland.

A prime example of residents who volunteer is Oakland's Access For All Committee.

On December 18, 2022, members of the Access for All Committee created a beautiful Holiday event at the Danny D'Elia Building. The event included Santa meeting, greeting, taking pictures and giving out goody bag presents. Thank you, Frank. Danny brought the fire truck, with limited lights and sounds,  for anyone who wanted to climb up, visit and take pictures. Thank you, Danny.

Oakland Mother's Club and Oakland Elks donated (and baked) refreshments and Mame from the Public Events Committee, who is Oakland's angel in disguise, helped serve light refreshments, together with volunteer students from Indian Hills High School Interact Club.

The event was geared towards those children and adults with special needs as with limited sensory and/or auditory needs or prefer a quieter holiday setting.

Wishing everyone a Happy and healthy New Year.
