From Mayor Linda H. Schwager

How quickly time moves forward. It is June already meaning summer vacation is almost here. However, before everyone leaves for summer vacation, and before our children go to summer camp, and before our graduating high school seniors get ready to leave for their next step in life, please join us for the many activities scheduled in Oakland this  month:

Saturday, June 3rd, 9 am to noon is Oakland Recreation’s annual baseball/softball celebration on our recreation fields beginning with the parade of the teams followed by games, food  and giveaways. Thank you to the many volunteers and Oakland organizations, Recreation Commission, Public Events, Oakland Chamber of Commerce plus so many more (too many to name) working together to put this event together for our children.

Oakland Arts Committee announces the weekend of June 9 Oakland’s “now” annual Arts Festival located in Veteran’s Park and Oakland Public Library.

Proms and Graduations throughout the month will keep everyone busy but save time and energy for Oakland’s annual carnival.  This year the carnival is scheduled fo June 21-24, with a special private time on Saturday, June 24th for families involved with Access For All. Thank you to our wonderful volunteer members on the  Access For All Committee who have organized this special activity.

Enjoy the active month of June before your summer vacation.  For more details about the Oakland events, go to the Borough website.
