Mayor's Message November 2023

I am very excited to provide you with an update of Oakland's newest park, Bush Plaza Park, beautiful gateway to our downtown. 

Bush Plaza Park, located at the Intersection of Ramapo Valley Road and West Oakland Avenue, will have a 4-sided clock, a new, larger flagpole, benches and period street lights all upon a field of curated grass. Much work has already been accomplished and bidding will occur in the near future.

What you currently see represents Phase I of the Bush Plaza Park project. The park will be expanded to encompass a new parking area and the area behind the current Enterprise building. 

Bush Plaza Park was conceived a little over a year ago. A team of citizens was recruited to explore the feasibility, develop an initial design, estimate costs and develop a fundraising program. And they succeeded! Presentations in 2023 were made to the council detailing their progress and successes. 

The development of the new Bush Plaza Park, named in honor of Oakland's founder, is a perfect example of resident involvement and council support combined with a vision for a better Oakland and the leadership to make it happen.
