Over 30 year old soccer team. The team has been playing in Oakland for over 20 years. Brian Weis who ran the team previously is still on the team, and I am also assisted by Mike Miner who helps with obtaining our field and the permit process. The league we play in is the North Jersey Soccer League; click here to visit our website.
Our fall season begins in September and generally runs through November. We then have a winter break and the Spring schedule resumes on March 30th and runs through early June. Our schedule can be found on the website by clicking here.
We play our home games at Truman Field and coordinate our schedules with the recently formed open team which is run by Marc Fox. The open team also plays in the North Jersey Soccer league. Our games are generally held on Sunday mornings. If we ever have an overlap with the open team (both having home games on the same day), we generally will start one game at 8:30am and the second at 10:30am. In any case we are always done by noon. In the past the fields have been lined for the fall (due to youth league), but we generally have had to line the field ourselves in the spring.
In the fall we have practiced one day during the week at the Rec fields, usually around 8:30pm once the youth teams finish. We generally combined our practices with the Open team, and even the Over 40 team. These fields with lights are not usually available in the spring as softball season takes up all the rec fields, and we have not been able to find fields with lights available to the team.
Our skill level varies, as we have people who have never played before, to guys that may have played in high school, and even a couple that may have played in college. We are always open to accepting new members to the team and are partially sponsored by a local establishment, the Elm Street Grill. They helped us partially purchase uniforms a couple years back and many of us go there after games or practices.
The fee we generally charge a player is $100 per year at the start of the season and that covers new uniform, league fees (which includes insurance), field permit, as well as the fee paid to the referee for the entire season.
There are 3 divisions for the over 30 league, in which we currently are in the middle division. Last year we were in the third (bottom) division, in which we finished in first place. Our trophy is proudly displayed at the Elm Street Grill. Because we finished in first place in the lower division last year, we moved up to the middle division this year in which we are currently in the middle of the pack.
