Overnight Parking

According to Oakland Borough Ordinance 7-15, no vehicle shall park on any roadways within the Borough between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. However, you can call the Oakland Police Department and request permission to do so. Permission is granted on a case by case basis. In addition, a special Overnight Parking Permit can be requested at the Borough Zoning Department. An application must be filed, which is approved by the Zoning Department and then forwarded to the Oakland Police Traffic Safety Bureau for review.

Ramapo River Reserve Parking

According to Oakland Borough Ordinance 7-39.3b.2, parking is prohibited on all streets in the Ramapo River Reserve at all times. Vehicles may be parked in designated spots throughout the reserve. Parking permission can be obtained on a case by case basis and the request must be submitted 72 hours in advance to the Oakland Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau.

Snow Emergency

According to Oakland Borough Ordinance 7-10, whenever snow has fallen and the accumulation is such that it covers the streets or highways, an emergency shall exist and no vehicle shall be parked on the streets or highways or portions thereof indicated. The parking prohibitions shall remain in effect after the snow has ceased until the streets or highways have been plowed sufficiently and to the extent that parking will not interfere with the normal flow of traffic.

In addition to Borough Ordinance 7-10, Oakland Borough Ordinance 12-5.1 (Owner of Abutting Property to Clear Snow and Ice) states that the owner, tenant or occupant of lands abutting on any street, highway or road within the limits of the Borough shall remove all snow and ice from the sidewalk or walkway areas in front of or bordering on said lands within twenty four (24) hours of daylight after the same shall be formed or fall thereon.
