ANJEC Annual Lechner Scholarship - Now Accepting Applications

The Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions (ANJEC) is offering a $1200 scholarship for a student entering his/her junior or senior year at a New Jersey college or university.
 
The Lechner Scholarship Fund is a living memorial to Hermia Lechner in recognition of her many years of dedicated service and contributions to the preservation of open space and natural resources in New Jersey. The scholarship is granted to encourage qualified students to pursue a career in a field related to environmental protection.

Eligibility:
 
The Student Must:

  • Be a New Jersey resident  Be attending an accredited New Jersey four-year college or university
  • Be entering his/her junior or senior year in the fall of 2020 Be majoring in natural resources, parks and recreation, environmental law, environmental sciences, or a related field 
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better 
  • Have demonstrated an activist role in the preservation of open space, wildlife, or water resources in NJ

Submit a completed Lechner Scholarship Application to ANJEC by Monday, September 14, 2020.
 
The Lechner Scholarship will be awarded by October 5, 2020.  The winner will be recognized at ANJEC’s annual statewide Environmental Congress on October 16, 2020.

ADDITIONAL REQUIRED ITEMS:

  • Describe your involvement in a project to improve natural resources (500 words or less, on a separate sheet of paper)
  • Attach an official transcript from your Dean’s office
  • Provide a letter of recommendation from a faculty member in your department.
  • Optional: Attach other letters of recommendation
