Oakland, N.J. – July 20, 2022 – During this week’s heat wave,  the Borough of Oakland would like to remind residents that cooling centers remain open for residents in need.

The Oakland Public Library, located at 2 Municipal Plaza, is available as a cooling center Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  The Library is closed on Sundays in the summer.

The Oakland Senior Center, located at 20 Lawlor Drive, is also available as a cooling center Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Everyone is welcome to use the cooling centers, which have air conditioning and seating. The cooling centers are primarily intended for those who do not have access to air conditioning and for whom being in extreme heat can be dangerous, if not fatal.
