Coronavirus Update 4-29-2020

Coronavirus Positive Tests in Oakland:

Today the Borough of Oakland was notified by the Bergen County Health Department that there are a total of 202 individuals in Oakland who tested positive for the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Bergen County has a total of 15,465 positive Coronavirus Cases, and the State of NJ has 116,264 positive cases. The Bergen County Health Department is no longer providing towns with patient details such as gender and age so we are not able to provide that information to the community.

2nd Quarter Grace Period Extension:

The Borough of Oakland is holding a Special Virtual Council Meeting on Friday May 1, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. to consider taking action on extending the grace period for May 1st Property Taxes from May 10, 2020 to no later than June 1, 2020, in accordance with the Governor’s Executive Order 130.  Visit the Borough Website for information on how to access the meeting.

Electronics Collection Cancelled:

Town-wide electronics collection scheduled for May 6 and May 20 have been CANCELLED due to the Coronavirus and staffing issues on the part of the vendor. Thank you for your patience during this ongoing situation.

Metal Collection Cancelled:

Town-wide metal collection scheduled for May 7th has been CANCELLED due to the Coronavirus and staffing issues with the hauler. Thank you for your patience during this on-going situation.

State and County Parks Reopening:

Today Governor Phil Murphy announced that State Parks will re-open on sunrise Saturday May 2, 2020. The Executive Order also permits counties to re-open parks and golf courses. Playgrounds, restrooms and visitor centers will remain closed, and organized activities including team sports are prohibited. Wearing masks is strongly urged.

This Week in Oakland Episode 2 Premiere Tonight:

This Week in Oakland Episode 2 will premiere tonight at 6:30 p.m. on Oakland TV Channel 77 and FiOS 45. The Episode will also be posted to the Borough’s YouTube Page. The Oakland Communications Commission and Oakland TV Committee have been putting their extra time to good use and are excited to continue to air This Week in Oakland – a helpful, informative, and interesting program made in Oakland, by and for Oaklanders. Segments over the next few episodes will span from art, to cooking, to nature, to pet care, and many other things in between!

Additional Food Assistance: 

Many New Jerseyans who receive food assistance through the state’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (NJ SNAP) will receive additional benefits in May to help address critical food needs related to the COVID-19 pandemic. An additional $36 million will be provided to about 214,000 New Jersey households in May. SNAP supplemental payments were included in the federal Families First Coronavirus Response Act. The supplemental benefits will be directly loaded to NJ SNAP recipients’ Families First EBT cards as part of their regular monthly payment.

Unemployment Benefits:

Updated information on the availability of Extended Benefits and the $600 Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (PUC) payment is posted in the pop-up window on the front page of nj.gov/labor and in the FAQs.

The dashboard has been updated to provide more information on scope of the virus and hospitalizations, including the number of patients hospitalized, discharged, in critical care, in intensive care, and on ventilators, along with data on statewide ventilator capacity, numbers of positive/negative tests, and more.
  • New Jersey’s COVID-19 Information Hub includes valuable resources and information for families, workers, and employers who have questions or needs arising from the current crisis.
