Virtual Borough Council Meeting Tonight:

There will be a Virtual Council Meeting tonight, July 8, 2020 at 7:30 p.m. If you are a member of the public and wish to comment or provide public input, please click here to receive the ZOOM meeting link, otherwise the meeting will be broadcast live on Oakland TV Channel 77 and FiOS 45, and on the Borough’s YouTube Channel.

Revised Metal Collection:

Town-wide metal collection has been moved to July 9, 2020, due to the July 4th Holiday.

Traffic Advisory:

Be advised that work crews will be restriping the painted lines on Ramapo Valley Road between Franklin Avenue and Long Hill Road on Friday, July 10, 2020 and Saturday, July 11, 2020. They will be performing this work between 8 am and 4pm on both days. Expect minor delays during these times as the work requires the work crews to be in the roadway. Police officers will be on scene to direct traffic. This work is dependent upon nice weather. If the contractor cancels the work due to inclement weather, an updated message will be posted advising of the new dates.

Face Coverings in NJ:

Face coverings are now REQUIRED in outdoor public spaces when social distancing is not practicable.

Exceptions for individuals:

  • Under two years old
  • Eating/drinking at an outdoor dining establishment
  • When wearing a mask would inhibit health or safety

Bergen County Mobile COVID-19 Testing and Statistics:

Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco announces that this week the COVID-19 community mobile testing program will deploy to Bogota, Carlstadt, East Rutherford, Englewood Cliffs, Maywood, Ridgefield Park, and Wallington. The program, which is available to all county residents thanks to a partnership between the County of Bergen and Bergen New Bridge Medical Center, has administered 24,528 COVID-19 saliva diagnostic and COVID-19 antibody tests to date.

Mobile Testing Site Dates and Locations (WEATHER PERMITTING):

  • Thursday, July 9 – Wallington, East Rutherford, & Carlstadt
  • Bowlero Wallington Parking Lot, 299 Paterson Avenue, Wallington
  • *Friday, July 10 – Englewood Cliffs
  • North Cliff Elementary School, 700 Floyd Street, Englewood Cliffs
  • *First responders from 9-9:30 AM and general public 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM*

All sites hours unless otherwise noted will be:

  • 9-10am for first responders and healthcare workers
  • 10am-2:30pm for the general public

Mobile testing is available on a first come, first serve basis and is free of charge to the patient, regardless of health insurance status. All community mobile testing sites will offer the COVID-19 saliva and COVID-19 antibody tests. The COVID-19 saliva test is available to all county residents regardless of symptoms, as well as first responders, healthcare workers, and municipal or county employees who work in Bergen County with proof of employment.

Due to demand, antibody testing will be limited to 200 per day and only be available for Bergen County first responders, healthcare workers, and Bergen County residents who previously tested positive for COVID-19 with documentation of prior test results. 

For the COVID-19 saliva test, please do not eat, drink, smoke, or chew gum 30 minutes prior to arrival. Identification is necessary so please bring your driver’s license/ID card, social security card, passport, or birth certificate. Proof of Bergen County residency or that you work in Bergen County is required so please bring your driver’s license, utility bill, pay stub, or work ID.  If you have an insurance card, also have that with you.

The County of Bergen and Bergen New Bridge Medical Center remind all residents that mobile testing is only one way to get tested. COVID-19 saliva screening and antibody testing are also available by appointment at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center. Reminder: Bergen County Small Business Grant Program to Begin Accepting Applications July 13:

The Bergen County CARES Small Business Grant Program to assist local businesses financially impacted by the government ordered shutdown will begin accepting applications on Monday, July 13. Businesses deemed “non-essential” per the Governor’s Executive Order 104 that were forced to close as a measure to stop the spread of COVID-19 will be eligible to receive up to $10,000 in financial relief to cover rent, property mortgage, and utilities expenses. Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) Announces Extended Application Deadline:

The Paycheck Protection Program resumed accepting applications July 6, 2020, at 9:00 AM EDT in response to President signing the program's extension legislation. The new deadline to apply for a Paycheck Protection Program loan is August 8, 2020.

How to Apply:

You can apply through any existing SBA 7(a) lender or through any federally insured depository institution, federally insured credit union, and Farm Credit System institution that is participating. Other regulated lenders will be available to make these loans once they are approved and enrolled in the program. You should consult with your local lender as to whether it is participating in the program. View a list of lenders participating in the Paycheck Protection Program by state.

Who Can Apply:

The following entities affected by Coronavirus (COVID-19) may be eligible:

  • Any small business concern that meets SBA’s size standards (either the industry based sized standard or the alternative size standard)
  • Sole proprietors, independent contractors, and self-employed persons
  • Any business with a NAICS Code that begins with 72 (Accommodations and Food Services) that has more than one physical location and employs less than 500 per location
  • Any business, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, 501(c)(19) veterans organization, or Tribal business concern (sec. 31(b)(2)(C) of the Small Business Act) with the greater of:
    • 500 employees, or
    • That meets the SBA industry size standard if more than 500

How to Report a Violation of a NJ Executive Order:

Compliance with Executive Orders is not voluntary. Residents who observe Executive Order violations by employers, organizations or entities can report them on the online form at covid19.nj.gov/forms/violation.

Hospital Visitor Update:

  • Visitors are permitted in hospitals with restrictions. The hospital sets the hours and duration of visitation.
  • Hospitals should post visitor information and requirements on their website.

Coronavirus Positive Tests in Oakland:

Today the Borough of Oakland was notified by the Bergen County Health Department that there are a total of 241 individuals in Oakland who tested positive for the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Bergen County has a total of 19,684 positive Coronavirus Cases, and the State of NJ has 174,039 positive cases.
