Coronavirus Update 8-7-2020

Power Outage Update:

Rockland Electric continues to work in town to restore power to as many Oakland residents as quickly as possible. All traffic lights have been restored. More residents on the north side of town have had their power restored today, with more to follow. Rockland Electric continues to identify problems which will result in power restoration for many others today and throughout the weekend. They are aware of the smaller residential groupings without power, such as, Hemlock Street, Skyline Drive, and parts on the north side. If you experience any problems related to your power being out, or otherwise, do not hesitate to contact the Oakland Police Department at (201) 337-6171. And as always, check on your friends, family, neighbors or anyone you know of who may be adversely affected by this weather event.

Oakland Public Library Open for Cooling and Device Charging:

The Oakland Public Library located at 2 Municipal Plaza, remains open during normal business hours until full power has been restored to Oakland. Please wear a mask upon entry.

Metal Collection:

Metal collection has been changed to the SECOND THURSDAY of the month due to COVID-19 staffing issues with the Borough’s hauler. Every business and residence in Oakland should have received a postcard in the mail with the change and future dates. We thank you for your understanding.

Small Landlord Emergency Grant Program:

Today Governor Murphy announced the new Small Landlord Emergency Grant Program, which allocates $25 million from the Coronavirus State Relief Fund to provide emergency assistance to small rental apartment building owners for COVID-19 rent related losses.

It Is Not Too Late To Complete the 2020 Census:

The Borough of Oakland now has an 81.2% Census Response Rate! Let’s make Oakland the highest in the State of NJ! Complete the US Census at 2020census.gov.

Coronavirus Positive Tests in Oakland:

Today the Borough of Oakland was notified by the Bergen County Health Department that there are a total of 250 individuals in Oakland who tested positive for the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Bergen County has a total of 20,637 positive Coronavirus Cases, and the State of NJ has 184,061 positive cases.
