EARTHQUAKE INFORMATION

Earthquake

Oakland residents, As you know by now we have experienced a 4.8 level earthquake centered in Lebanon, New Jersey. Although considered mild, it is the worst quake in New Jersey in over a century. Out of an abundance of caution, the Borough is reviewing critical infrastructure. Oakland’s water system  and sewer systems have been inspected and are working properly.  Our Borough Engineer has inspected Lenape Lane bridge, Island Terrace Bridge and Lakeshore Drive bridges and determined that they show no deficiencies.  Bergen County is currently inspecting Glen Gray and Doty Road bridges.

Please, if you haven’t by now, check your own homes and make sure your haven’t suffered any damage to gas lines etc.  You can check with public service as well. Here is a helpful resource that you can use to help check your own property: https://www.nj.gov/njoem/plan-prepare/earthquakes.shtml

We will report back to you as needed.  Be aware of possible aftershocks and please re-inspect your homes as needed.
