New Gardeners Invited to Rent Plots in Oakland Community Garden

Press Release - 2022

Oakland, N.J. - March 4, 2022 - Winter got you down? Think spring by registering for a garden plot in the Borough of Oakland Community Garden.

Oakland residents can cultivate their green thumbs by renting a plot in the garden, located behind the Oakland Borough Hall, One Municipal Plaza, Oakland, N.J. 07436.  A limited number of ADA accessible raised garden beds and regular plots are now available for new gardeners on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost is $50 for first-year gardeners.

The garden is open to Oakland residents. For more information and to register for a plot, go online to the registration form.

The garden’s website offers timely information for gardeners, a calendar of events and information on donating surplus produce. In addition to growing food for your own personal use, last year gardeners donated more than 200 pounds of surplus produce. Meetings and events during the year also offer an opportunity to share ideas outside the garden.

Established in 2020, the Oakland Community Garden offers 22 total plots, with 5 ADA accessible table top beds, and 2 tabletop salad tables for new and returning gardeners who live in Oakland. Fencing protects the area from deer and other critters. For more information, send email to the Sustainable Oakland Green Team at greenteam@oakland-nj.org
