Ryan Schwertfeger Recognized as National Small Town Civic Volunteer

Oakland, N.J. – March 4, 2022 – Oakland resident and volunteer Ryan Schwertfeger was among the 100 municipal leaders honored nationwide with the 2021 Small Town American Civic Volunteer Award.

The award, given out by Civic Plus, honors local leaders. Schwertfeger, one of only a few from North Jersey, was chosen as an award winner out of 700 nominations in 49 states across the nation.

“Congratulations to Ryan Schwertfeger on this great recognition”, said Oakland Mayor Linda H. Schwager. “Ryan has been a great asset to the Borough of Oakland and its reRyan Award - 2022sidents.”

Mr. Schwertfeger currently serves as the Chairman of the Oakland Communications Commission. The Communications Commission operates the Borough’s Local Access Television Channel, manages the Borough Newsletter, and assists with the website and social media channels. Recent noteworthy accomplishments include digitizing old VHS recordings, renovating the Borough’s TV Studio with modern equipment, and offering Oakland TV on streaming devices.

Writing the nomination was humbling as I went through the list of initiatives and projects that have been accomplished. This work was done to better our community through positive collaboration with all the amazing volunteers on the Oakland Communications Commission.”
