COVID-19 UPDATE

Statement on First Confirmed Positive Test for COVID-19 in Oakland

The Borough received notification that an Oakland resident has tested positive for the novel Corona virus, COVID-19.  The male resident is being treated at Valley Hospital.  As we receive additional information we will share it with the community.

We wish to remind residents of guidance from the CDC on steps you can take to protect yourself and others:

  • Clean your hands often and practice good hygiene
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow.
  • Throw used tissues in the trash and immediately wash your hands.
  • Stay home if you’re sick, except to get medical care.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks.
  • Avoid close contact
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Put distance between yourself and other people – avoid group gatherings as much as possible.

In addition, we urge private organizations and businesses to join the Borough and School District in practicing “social distancing” by limiting group gatherings as much as possible.

The current crisis is unprecedented but we can get through it together by helping and supporting each other.  As the situation develops, more information will be forthcoming.  In the meantime, please stay safe.
