Tropical Storm Isaias: August 6, 2020 Update

From Mayor Linda H. Schwager
Phone Charging Station

The Borough of Oakland just got off a conference call with Orange and Rockland Utilities. 50,000 out of 117,000 Bergen County homes have been restored as of today. It is confirmed that a significant section of the south side of Oakland, the central downtown business district, and portions of the Ramapo River Reserve have been restored as of 6:20 a.m. today. The north side of town remains out. Orange and Rockland is working diligently to restore the rest of the Borough. Individual home situations may take longer. At this time, the Borough does not have an official timeframe of restoration. An official estimated restoration time (ETR) on a county/region basis will be posted tonight on Orange and Rockland Utilities website at 7:00 p.m. at www.oru.com.

The Oakland Public Library remains open today until 8:00 p.m. as a cooling center and mobile device charging center. Residents are required to wear masks upon entry.

The Borough is pushing Orange and Rockland Utilities for another free water and ice location in Bergen County. Information will be forthcoming.

If any resident relies on oxygen support and needs supplemental oxygen during the power outage, please reach out to the Oakland Police Department at (201) 337-6171 and the Oakland First Aid Squad will be contacted. Please continue to check on neighbors, friends, and senior citizens. For those without internet and cell service, please relay these messages to neighbors and friends. We will keep you updated as we receive further information.
