A New Wrestling Room

Wrestling

There is a brand-new wrestling room in our local community. A real concern for the wrestling families was the state of the old Indian Hills High School wrestling room. The mats were 30 years old, there was unease about the air quality and that the room represented athletics of a bygone era; and not one that reflected the excitement of what’s to come. That said, the Recreation Commission decided to do something about it, and we did, all done through private donations and not one single taxpayer dollar.

New Wrestling Commissioner Austin Wall took the lead and raised the funds necessary to make this state-of-the-art room happen. Working directly with IHHS Athletic Director Jon Duncan, a plan was put into place. The room now has brand new top grade wrestling mats that have 12 separate wrestling training circles. The walls are completely covered with safety mats which will protect the wrestlers in every direction they move. The room got a fresh coat of paint and to top it off there was a new ventilation system installed. The finished product is absolutely tremendous. Once the season starts, new workout apparatus will be added to complete this state-of-the-art facility.

We would like to thank everyone who donated to this process and to IHHS for working so well with us. Our former building that housed our old wrestling room was sold and with the new corporate ownership, the possibility of continuing our program at this location is no longer an option. The commission had to make changes and knew it had to be done sooner rather than later. We hope everyone enjoys the new space as we hope to make it a positive experience for our wrestlers.  Go Braves!
