Report from Restore Native Plants

Roots for Rivers

On April 6th 2019, in Great Oak Park near Little Pond Brook (41.016855-74.257274), volunteers gathered to remove invasive species to improve the streams habitat. This work prevents further seed dispersal which the plants use the stream as a pathway to spread. Our target for the day was Multiflora rose (Rosa multiflora). Our volunteers hand pulled and removed 102 multiflora rose and 2 Japanese barberry (berberis thunbergii) plants within an estimated gross area of 4,000 square feet, bringing our total to 104 invasive plants removed for the day.
