Garbage Collection Update
Dear Oakland Residents,
On behalf of the Mayor and Borough Council, we would like to thank you for your patience, understanding, and the feedback you have shared with us as we continue the transition to our new solid waste collection provider.
The Borough entered into this new arrangement as a means to reduce the cost of a service that has almost tripled in cost over the last decade and our new contract will save taxpayers at least $1.4 million over the contract term.
While the first days of this transition presented some challenges, we appreciate the cooperation and understanding shown by our residents as we work to address these issues.
We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to the dedicated employees of both the Oakland Department of Public Works and the Pompton Lakes Department of Public Works. Their willingness to put in the extra time and effort yesterday to address missed collections and help make things right did not go unnoticed. We are grateful for their commitment to serving our community.
The Borough will be meeting with representatives from Pompton Lakes on Monday to review this week's events, discuss the concerns raised by residents, and develop a clear path forward to ensure this program meets the expectations of our community.
We will share more information with the community following Monday's meeting.
Thank you again for your patience, your understanding, and for working with us as we continue this transition.
Sincerely,
The Mayor and Borough Council
