America 250

America is turning 250 years old in July 2026 and Oakland is joining the celebration! A committee comprised of Borough representatives, local organizations, and community groups will be hosting and coordinating a series of commemorative events and programs throughout the year. Keep an eye on our events page, subscribe to Oakland's Facebook, Instagram, and e-blasts, and sign up to receive our free emailed newsletters to learn about upcoming events and programs and find out how you can get involved. Let's make this year one for the history books!

The America 250 Committee was overwhelmed by how many creative, thoughtful, and beautifully designed submissions we received. There were over 80 logo designs in total and we thoroughly enjoyed seeing the skill, effort, and community spirit that went into each and every submission. Thank you to all of the students and parents for helping us to commemorate this special year in our nation's history.

What is RevolutionNJ?

RevolutionNJ is a state-wide organization dedicating to coordinating efforts to celebrate America's 250th anniversary across all counties and municipalities. Check out their listing of upcoming events here to see what other towns across New Jersey are doing to celebrate this momentous occasion. 

What does is mean to be a RevNJ community?

In 2025, Oakland's Mayor and Council passed a resolution to join the RevNJ community. This means that we are now part of their network of communities which are dedicating to promoting national, state, and local history in celebration of America's 250th. Our local America 250 events can now be promoted to the whole state-wide network of municipalities that participate in this program. Keep an eye out for their logo throughout the year as we celebrate our nation's founding.
