New NJ E-Bike Laws to Take Effect July 19th

Flyer with new NJ E-bike law information. Also available at the link listed in the text of the message.

Beginning July 19, 2026, New Jersey's new e-bike laws go into effect. With these changes, officers may issue summonses and, in certain circumstances, impound vehicles for violations.

The Oakland Police Department's primary goal is education. We are committed to helping residents understand the new requirements so everyone can ride safely and legally. However, once the law takes effect, enforcement will begin, and citations or impoundment may be necessary when violations are observed.

Please take a few minutes to review the new requirements and ensure you, your family, and your e-bike are in compliance before July 19.
