Hurricane Preparedness Information

The Atlantic Hurricane Season runs from June 1 to November 30.

Make sure that you are prepared and ready with these 10 preparations:

  • Know your Hurricane Risk;
  • Recognize Warnings and Alerts;
  • Make an Emergency Plan;
  • Review Important Documents;
  • Gather Supplies;
  • Strengthen your Home;
  • Collect Additional Resources and Supplies for those with Disabilities;
  • Get Tech Ready;
  • Help Your Neighborhood;
  • Prepare your Business

Some simple tasks to help you be prepared are:

  • Checking and filling up generators;
  • Making sure you have enough supplies (water, medicine, food, batteries, fuel, cash, etc.);
  • Making sure cars are fueled up;
  • Filling propane tanks so you can grill in the event of an extended power outage;
  • Changing batteries in smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors;
  • Keeping cell phones and portable batteries charged;
  • If you have a sump pump, ensuring that it's in working order;
  • Removing and/or securing anything from outside that could blow away (grills, tents, toys, garbage cans, etc.)

Stay tuned to local weather reports and be ready to act. If you do need to evacuate, never drive through standing water or go near downed power lines.
