Junior Police Academy

JPA Flier

Welcome to the Oakland Junior Police Academy’s Informational Page.

After much discussion and review, we regret to announce that the 2020 Junior Police Academy will be cancelled in the best interest of the children, instructors, and presenters.

The recruits will be engaged in many different activities throughout the academy. Each day will include military drill, physical training and defensive tactics. We will have several law enforcement presentations by the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department (Bomb Squad and K-9) and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office. The Oakland First Aid Squad and the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department will also present activities to the recruits and show them what is expected from them every single day.  We also will be visiting agencies outside the Borough of Oakland.

The Oakland Junior Police Academy will replicate what an actual Police Officer experiences during their time at the Police Academy. The instructors will expect the recruits to have enthusiasm and motivation while at the Junior Police Academy.

If you think your child would be interested in a dynamic, hands on, fun week of learning about law enforcement; please fill out a registration form and return it to Police Headquarters or via e-mail. The academy is open to Oakland residents and to children that are affiliated with an Oakland organization. Children that are entering 7th, 8th and 9th grade in September 2020 are eligible for this program. Thank you for your time and interest in this program. The application for this program will be distributed by the Oakland Public Schools.

*** Depending on the amount of children registered, preference will be given to children that have not previously attended the Junior Police Academy. You will receive an email confirming your child’s spot in the program. Thank you for your cooperation.
